MOONSCAPE

When I lived on the western shore of Lake Huron, we had magnificent sunsets. And, now living on the northern shore of Lake Ontario, we have the most incredible moonscapes. Often dancing ribbons of white form a pathway to the shore. The light from the moon in the countryside is awesome. It is something we do not see in light-filled cities. It is an experience that I cherish and have been inspired to paint… a full moon hanging over the water, a full moon rising above sand dunes and a harvest moon lighting fields of grain ready for harvest.

There is another “moon” that is very special… I call it the highwayman moon… often when the lake is in tumult and thick clouds scurry across the night sky, this moon is partially obscured from time to time – “the moon is a ghostly galleon tossed upon the sea and the highwayman comes riding, riding, riding…” the words from a poem we memorized as children come back to haunt me as an adult.
